Here is a recent logo design for a customer who is part of a volunteer group that gives support and comfort to people in mourning. The customer was looking for a custom illustrated falling leaf to represent the end of life. She requested it to be black ad white and a horizontal layout to better fit her webpage banner. The challenge was trying to make a single leaf have a falling appearance without a tree or sense of ground within the image. I placed a watercolor brush stroke behind the title to help create a softer, calming appearance and to also give a less dominant appearance to “Vermont” being the location of the service.

Today I’m working on my digital illustration skills I’ve been studying many different designers who are able to create beautiful illustrations with simple color palettes and fantastic uses of light and shadows. They are able to suggest shapes by excluding them, if that makes sense. This will be an ongoing project of mine where I will create an outdoor apparel company and develop a marketing campaign using this technique of less is more. Enjoy!

Today is the first post of my new blog. I’ve uploaded a new painting I completed after 3 days of work. The painting has been on my mind for some time. I wanted to attempt a large mountain scene. About a month ago I watched a Bob Ross tutorial on painting mountains using his wet on wet technique with oil paints. In this tutorial he explains his color palette and the use of gently applying a bead of paint with the palette knife in order to suggest a rocky cliff side. The lesson was enlightening since I have always struggled with illustrating rocks and also helped me in my pursuit of using less detail to suggest objects.
I decided to create my mountain painting in acrylic medium. The process was a similar yet different to the wet on wet style. Once I palette knifed in the mountain I then used a round sable brush to place in more detail and highlights as needed. The next step will be to build a frame. Thank you for taking the time to read my new blog and explore my portfolio of work. I hope you enjoy!
